Since their debut at a gift show in San Francisco in August boxes of pedigreed pet rocks have been flying off the shelves. It's hard to believe that a stone picked up on a Mexican beach could be purchased in bulk for less than a penny, package in a cardboard box with holes and sold retail for $3.95. Perhaps even more disturbing is the rash of disappearing pet rock owners. Rest assured, if there is something more too it, the intrepid investigators of the Independent New Service (INS) will find out put it on the wire for their faithful readers.
