Long Description:
Guides will share stories of the park’s history, from the time of Indianapolis’s settlement to the present day, tracing how the area evolved from a hub of transportation and industry to a center for recreation, culture, and entertainment. The tour will highlight how historic landmarks became assets within the park including the 1916 Washington Street bridge, limestone-lined river promenade, 1870 pumphouse, Central Canal, and more. This tour takes place outside and covers approximately 1 mile. Tours run rain or shine, so wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. The route is accessible for those using mobility aids or with strollers. There is no seating along the tour route. Public restrooms are available in the park.
